The careful use of water as a resource is an important environmental protection goal. BORBET has therefore already implemented many measures in recent years and we are constantly looking for further opportunities for optimisation.
In particular, we are focussing on reusing process water that has already been used and improving the processes in the paint shops and waste water treatment plants.

The production and processing of metal is complex and sometimes energy-intensive. Natural gas and electricity are the most important energy sources. For us, using energy efficiently is a question of both ecological responsibility and economic necessity. All our BORBET sites are certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 50001.

In order to use existing resources, we rely on effective recycling for aluminium. Compared to other raw materials, aluminium can be recycled without any loss of quality. This requires only around a tenth of the energy needed for raw production. When recycling, we return aluminium shavings that are produced during manufacturing back into the cycle by melting them. This also applies to wheels that do not meet our quality requirements.

Continuously improving the carbon footprint of our wheels is a high priority for us. In doing so, we not only rely on the increased use of green electricity at our locations, but above all on the sustainable procurement of our aluminium. Our primary aluminium suppliers are certified in accordance with the Performance Standard of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative.
We use a special aluminium alloy AlSi7Mg for our wheels. In our industry, it is important that we talk about definitions and terminology and therefore have the same understanding.
We use DIN EN ISO 14021:2016 as the basis for the definition of recycled material.

Recycling material
Recycled material is an umbrella term for pre-consumer aluminium and post-consumer aluminium.
pre-consumer aluminium
Pre-consumer aluminium is defined as material that was never used by the end customer but was previously recycled. This excludes material that can be fed directly back into the same process that produced the "waste". Rejected wheels that are sorted out before the paint shop can be melted down again directly without an additional processing step.
post-consumer aluminium
Post-consumer aluminium is material that was used by the end customer and can no longer be used there. In our case, these are old wheels.
low carbon aluminium
When we talk about low carbon aluminium, we mean aluminium whose carbon footprint does not exceed 5kg CO2e/kg aluminium. Aluminium smelters that achieve this value use renewable energies in electrolysis, for example, and thus reduce the footprint of the material.

From market research, design and construction to the finished painted wheel, the products are created entirely under one roof. State-of-the-art manufacturing processes, patented and innovative production technologies, an uncompromising quality assurance system and hard-working employees contribute to the company's success every day.
BORBET takes its responsibility seriously and places environmental protection at the centre of everything it does. We combine our high quality standards with our ecological requirements in the value chain, production and BORBET wheels.

ECO-BALANCE
In 2020, we launched a new project for greater transparency - the creation of a life cycle assessment of our wheels. An external partner carried out the analysis in accordance with ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 and used data from the 2019 financial year. The entire life cycle of the wheels was considered, from production to disposal. The life cycle assessment is based on an average wheel weight per plant to ensure comparability.CURRENT TOPICS
This wheel concept combines the factors of wheel weight, aerodynamics and brake cooling and ensures a completely new level of performance thanks to automatically closing insert flaps.
BORBET INSERTS SHAPE THE MOBILITY OF TOMORROW.

In addition to the "look and feel", wheels also determine the driving characteristics and fuel consumption of a vehicle. Above all, weight and aerodynamics are currently the most influential parameters for fuel consumption and CO2 emissions or for the range that is so crucial for electric vehicles.
BORBET uses inserts to reduce the vehicle's wheel weight and aerodynamic drag, thereby making a lasting contribution to lowering fuel consumption. Inserts also offer the opportunity to customise the wheel and take its appearance to a new level.
In the future, the use of inserts will play a decisive role in more and more wheel designs. One that is not only functional, but also visually outstanding.

BORBET has a wide range of wheels for vehicles with alternative drive systems. It is therefore only logical that the focus is now also increasingly on sustainability in the company's own fleet.
BORBET RELIES ON ELECTRIC SMARTS.

BORBET is currently expanding its fleet, for example with stylish electric speedsters: the "E-Smarts" are now in use at the company's German sites. The BORBET LV4 wheels in 5.5x15 inch provide uncompromising driving pleasure. The elegant "black glossy" colour variant rounds off the trend-setting appearance perfectly.
The topic of sustainability has long been firmly anchored at BORBET: the traditional manufacturer recently became the only wheel manufacturer in the world to be successfully certified according to the Performance Standard of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI). This non-profit organisation has set itself the goal of creating greater sustainability and transparency along the entire aluminium value chain for the responsible use of aluminium as a raw material.
The E-Smarts project represents another important step into the future and takes the BORBET motto "No matter how good you already are, you can always get better" to the next level.

BORBET Y and Tesla Y. Thanks to the new "e-grey" colour, the two now not only match perfectly in terms of name, but also in terms of look and feel.
BORBET Y ELECTRIFIES THE TESLA Y

The BORBET Y in the "Classic" category is now available for the all-electric premium mid-range SUV as a new ECE wheel in 9.5x19 and 9.5x20 inch. The BORBET Y is being launched especially for the Tesla in the new "e-grey" colour and is also available in the popular "black glossy" version.
As a reinterpretation of the classic star shape and with the wheel hub positioned low in the centre, the BORBET Y shows how to optimally emphasise the spokes. For an all-round active and electrifying new riding experience.
