In times of sustainability debates andCO2 limits, car manufacturers are increasingly focusing on wheels. This is because wheels not only determine the "look and feel" of a vehicle, but also its driving characteristics and fuel consumption.
SUSTAINABLE CONCEPTS FOR THE MOBILITY OF TOMORROW.

Above all, weight and aerodynamics are currently the most influential parameters for fuel consumption andCO2 emissions or for the range, which is so crucial for electric vehicles. Depending on the vehicle concept, this can ideally be increased by up to 15%. Aerodynamic drag plays the decisive role here. Although smaller wheels are generally more wind-slippery than larger ones, a larger diameter wheel also reduces the rolling resistance or contact area of the tire.
In addition to size, there are other ways to improve handling characteristics - and these are hidden in the details. For example, in a completely aerodynamically closed wheel design, where the cooling of the brakes is not neglected. BORBET has developed a new concept in which small, intelligent inserts play a major role. A second concept shows solutions for using sustainable inserts made from renewable raw materials.
The wheel experts from BORBET will be demonstrating how wheel development can be fundamentally and sustainably changed by both concepts by presenting two new concepts to the world at THE TIRE COLOGNE 2022:
New Driving Coolness through BORBET ACTIVE AERO WHEEL
This wheel concept combines the factors of wheel weight, aerodynamics and brake cooling and ensures a completely new level of performance thanks to automatically closing insert flaps.
The wheel as the base carrier has a new stylistic design and has been optimized in production using the weight-reducing FlowForming and Undercut lightweight construction technologies. The wheel weight in the 8.0x19 inch size is just 9.2 kg. Ten inserts ensure a 100% closed wheel surface and enable maximum flow optimization. To cool the brakes, five inserts are opened during driving by means of thermal actuators. This revolutionary technology ensures the appropriate "driving coolness".
More sustainability thanks to NATURAL FIBER INSERTS
The sustainability of BORBET alloy wheels is currently demonstrated, for example, by the ASI certification and the GOLD award from ecovadis. In February 2022, BORBET became the first wheel manufacturer in the world to have all of its production sites certified by the ASI. The decisive factor here is, among other things, the sustainable use of the raw material aluminum in the production of a wheel.
This commitment to greater sustainability is now being continued with aerodynamic inserts. The i-ATX concept bike with NATURAL FIBER INSERTS fulfills our claim by using renewable raw materials. The special AERO inserts are woven from a flax material, as known from the "carbon" sector, and are therefore made from a regenerative natural material. Similar to carbon components, these inserts have a very appealing sporty look as well as a low product weight with maximum stability.
The i-ATX wheel weighs just 14.7 kg and can cope with high wheel and axle loads. It optimizes the airflow around the wheel, making the car more streamlined. The NATURAL FIBER INSERTS show how sustainable, innovative and forward-looking the use of new materials can be and that the look is not neglected either.
BORBET THÜRINGEN GETS LIFELONG DREAMS ROLLING.

The employees (m/f/d) at the BORBET site in Bad Langensalza were asked to contribute ideas for the distribution of the raffle proceeds. The result: 20 local organizations, such as schools, daycare centers, sports clubs, animal shelters and many more, each received a donation of €300. The children's hospice in Central Germany, which has been supported by BORBET Thuringia for many years, was delighted to receive a donation of €1,000.
"We would like to thank our colleagues for their generosity. Thanks to their commitment, numerous projects and associations in the region were able to benefit from their support," summarizes Michael Lamczyk, member of the BORBET Thüringen works council.

A CAREER YOU CAN TOUCH AT THE HIDDEN CHAMPION.

BORBET Thüringen was one of eleven companies from Bad Langensalza to organise the "Night of Careers". Two free bus routes took the young people through the industrial estate and the town of Bad Langensalza to give them an insight into various industries with a wide range of training occupations.
After the welcome, the visitors were given an introduction to the world of light alloy wheels at BORBET Thüringen and received initial information about the "hidden champion" in the automotive sector. Apprentices from the wheel manufacturer then guided the participants through the production area to the training workshop, where around 110 young people and their parents learnt about the wide range of apprenticeships at the region's largest employer. Trainers and trainees presented the various fields of activity using practical examples: From electronics technician and tool mechanic to industrial clerk and IT specialist, there was something for everyone.
"We seamlessly built on the success of the first Night of Careers in March with the second event. In addition to many discussions with interested pupils and parents, we were able to receive a number of enquiries for internships during the event," says Norman Fell, Head of Training at BORBET Thüringen, summarising the event positively.
